Circa 1790's. Case is an elaborate and well done contemporary casing. This fine and massive double barrel flintlock pistol by the renowned Theophilus Richards has stepped bolt lock plates with push on safeties and roller bearing fizzens, signed in full "Theophilus Richards". The heavy barrels of massive, nearly 80 caliber, are marked "Stubs Twisted" on the bottom. Trigger guard with trophy of arms and pineapple finial. Breech is finely engraved with drums and foliage. The figured walnut half stock is checkered at wrist with silver oval unengraved thumb piece. The heavy outcase with numerous accessories is lined in green felt wit a modern Theophilus Richards trade label. Locks are in good condition, with all original small parts and hammer screws, action is good. Interior still retains some original polish. Trigger guard is worn with no finish. Figured walnut stock has no significant damage. One piece approximately 3/8" in right side pieced in and glued. Barrels are heavily refinished with a fairly recent Damascus brown. Signed "Theop. Richards". Altogether a most attractive ensemble suitable for the collector of British flints of Howda pistols.
