An early SS Summer Weight Tunic in excellent condition. These early Summer Weight Tunics were originally intended to be used as drill tunics and saw most of their use between the years 1934 to 1939, with many still being worn well into the war years. Many of these tunics were completely worn out within the first years of the war, so finding original examples today can prove difficult. The tunic itself is a Heer pattern summer weight tunic. The base fabric of the tunic is made out of an earth grey colored, fine cotton twill. The tunic has four pleated front pockets with scalloped flaps, with the two lower front pockets being angled slash pockets. The tunic uses six closure buttons, which are held in place by metal retainers on the interior side. The collar tabs are neatly hand stitched in place by sewing under the tab and only through the first layer, the thread does not penetrate to the underside of the collar. The SS runes are made of white cotton machine stitched to a high quality black badge cloth backing. The rank tab is also made of high quality black badge cloth backing with two silver pips attached for the rank of "SS Oberscharfuhrer". The sleeve eagle is an earlier nicely made "Hammerhead" variant made of white cotton machine woven on a high quality badge cloth backing. The eagle is neatly hand stitched to the sleeve. The slip-on style SS Scharfuhrer rank boards seem to be of a later make than the rest of the insignia, but are original and match the rank of the corresponding collar tab. Scattered light marks can be observed on the sleeves and the lower portion of the tunic near the slash pockets. No tags or size markings can be found on the tunics interior. This is an incredible opportunity to take home an early SS Summer Weight Drill Tunic.
