A Third Reich SS Dagger in, overall, excellent condition. The "A. Schuttelhofer" marked steel blade is in excellent condition. Runner marks are present on the blade, as well evidence of some cleaning from the smaller superficial scratching and absence of cross-graining. The blades motto "Mein Ehre Heisst Treue" (My Honor is Loyalty) is acid etched on the blade, but all of its burnished finishing has been worn away. The black ebony grip is in excellent condition, but there appears to be a repair to the area around the nickle silver grip eagle. The repair was made with a black resin. The nickle silver cross-guards are in near mint condition as well, but appear to have been cleaned at one point. The lower cross-guard has the stamp "W I" on the reverse. The chained scabbard is painted black and fitted with nickle silver fittings. The paint on the scabbard is 90% intact, with some scattered light marks. The patina on the upper throat fitting and the lower fitting are perfect matches, while the patina of the center band for the chain appears slightly off. The band appears original to the scabbard and is held in place by a single screw which shows evidence of being turned once. The chain on the scabbard is mostly original. However, on the long chain, four of the connecting clips for the chain plates are replacement pieces and not original to the dagger. The upper SS link is marked with the "SS" runes on the reverse. The chain's clip appears original to the chain. Aside from the replaced links, the chain is in an overall, excellent condition.
