A two piece, named Uboat crewman grouping consisting of a sailor's cap with matching Dickie. The sailor's cap is the so-called "Donald Duck" style cap. The cap is in overall very good condition. The cap is made of a dark blue doeskin material which shows some moth tracking and nips to the top, and a few on the sides. The lower perimeter of the cap is wrapped with a black rayon band that has the words "Unterseebootsflottille Saltzwedel" woven in a gold colored cotton. The rear tassels of the cap's band have been cut short. A gilded aluminum national eagle and cockade are attached to the front of the cap and both show some oxidation from moisture. The interior of the cap is lined with a medium blue woven cotton, with the maker's logo in the center and a black ink stamp of "56" for the size. A thin oil cloth sweatband lines the interior and shows a few small tears and discoloration from wear and age. Behind the sweatband, is a small white laundry tag with the printed name "Moller. P", presumably for the sailor who owned this cap originally. The Dickie is made of woven cotton and is overall in excellent condition. It shows light staining throughout and a few older seam repairs made with white thread. The two lower ties and loops are intact, as well as the breast tie. The Dickie is ink stamped with the manufacturer's code, as well as stamped and hand written unit markings. There is also a white laundry tag, matching the laundry tag found in the cap exactly, which has the typed name "Moller. P". A very uncommon named Uboat grouping to a sailor, which is seldomly seen on today's collector's market.
