U.S. Cavalry saddle blanket (Chevac) includes "Letter of Provenance" from the "Western Arms & Trading Co." in New Mexico. Letter indicates saddle blanket is from circa 1870-1880 and was the property of Brigadier General Ranald S. MacKenzie. BG MacKenzie was the commanding Colonel of the 4th cavalry during the 1870s and 1880s. Saddle blanket is in a dark blue wool with golden-yellow HBT cotton trim. Blanket has one leather pad sewn to the top front, a green cotton band sewn underneath, and a golden-yellow star sewn to the lower left of each side. Overall in very good condition.
