Orrin G. Thayer worked from 1862 to circa 1878 in Chardon, Ohio. This percussion swivel has an engraved back action percussion lock with a button release allowing the barrels to swivel. Octagon rifled barrels with rifle sights with one barrel engraved with "O.G. Thayer" and one with "Chardon, O". Rifle has floral engraving on lock, backplate and on the end of the barrels. Checkered figured walnut buttstock with cheekpiece and engraved iron crescent buttplate. Iron engraved loop triggerguard with single trigger. German silver oval engraved patchbox and German silver engraved eagle and shield on the cheekpiece. Original hickory ramrods in original iron pipes. CONDITION: Gun has sharp engraving and corners. Metal has nice original patina and perfect screws. Checkering is sharp with light handling marks. Rifle is in excellent condition for its age. CORRECTION: It has been discovered that a repair exists at the wrist that has been expertly done. A small crack has been expertly filled and is almost indiscernible.
