Offered is an early shallow milled panel large ring Model C96 Broomhandle pistol. The milled out panels on the frame are only about half as deep as any of those found on any other early Model C96. A good number of these were imported to the United States and were often found with the "VON LENGERKE & DETMOLD" stamp, as this example does. Stamp can be found on the left milled panel. This information an be found on page 84 and 85 in the book "System Mauser" by Breathed and Schroeder. Pistol features late adjustable rear sight, 23 groove walnut grips, early safety, late one-lug firing pin, late trigger, early fire blue extractor, small parts and grip screw; blued finish. Images of the "VL&D" marking can be found page 19. Collectors generally refer to these guns as a standard large ring. All visible matching numbers throughout. CONDITION: Pistol retains 80-85% original finish with some usual thinning on barrel and various spotting on left side. Grips are excellent. Extremely fine bore and nice action. Comes in a shipping box dated 1955 from Christy Gun Works in California to Elvin Imus. Also comes with a shoulder holster.
