The .38 Colt was introduced in 1886 and dropped in 1914. A total of 1,011 were manufactured in the standard frame model prior to 1914. Colt reintroduced this caliber in 1922 until 1940, in which a total of 1,365 were made. This example features the 4-3/4" barrel, six shot, single action, smokeless frame, real ivory grips. All matching numbers; neither barrel nor cylinder are numbered, which is proper. Two line barrel address and two line patent date on left side of frame. CONDITION: Gun is basically devoid of any finish and is a soft grey patina. All legends are sharp. Ivory grips have aged beautifully. Indexes and locks up correctly. Strong, clean rifled bore. This rare Colt was part of a five gun shipment, sent on January 11th, 1902 to one of the largest Colt dealers in the country, M. Hartley & Company of New York with 4-3/4" barrel, blued finish, ivory stocks not listed (dealer applied), and in the very rare .38 Colt caliber.
