These Richards Mason conversions were produced at the factory as cartridge revolvers from new and unnumbered parts remaining at the factory. Serial numbers from 1 to 3800. This example has the full octagon barrel with New York address. Left side of frame has two line patent dates. Cylinder has Naval battle scene, 80% of which is still visible. Full or partial matching numbers on frame, barrel, trigger guard and cylinder, factory nickel plated and has the one piece walnut grips. CONDITION: Retains approximately 75-80% nickel finish, balance freckling. 50% nickel on housing, mostly hidden area. 60-70% nickel on frame, most loss on left side. Traces of nickel on cylinder. Traces of nickel on trigger guard. 20% nickel on brass backstrap. Two frame screws and wedge lock screw are totally butchered and need replacing. Stocks show severe shrinkage and rounding. Indexes and locks up fine. Strong rifled bore with some black powder residue. With a little tweaking, this is an excellent example of a factory nickel whose total numbers were under 4,000.
