This rifle was manufactured sometime between December of 1942 and March of 1943. Left side of stock has stamped ordnance with "SA" on top and inspector stamp "GAW" on bottom, for George A. Woody, who was the inspector from August of 1943 to March 1945. The stock was thus inspected by the next inspector, which could indicate that the action was not stocked until later or that the stock was replaced. The trigger group is a Winchester. The sights are the correct lock-bar rear sight with rounded ends. Bolt is stamped "D282287-12SA/S-04", which is the correct pin number but incorrect heat lot, indicating replacement. Has a replaced barrel with no date. Bottom of wrist has the block P with feet in circle. CONDITION: The exposed part of the barrel has lost the majority of its finish while the port and frame retain approximately 85% of the Arsenal matte finish with thinning to gun metal on left side. Stock is in excellent condition with a few normal dings. Has period applied piece of black electrical tape 1" from stock for an unknown reason. Stock is not spliced. Comes with a period leather sling. ME reading: 0 (replaced barrel). A fine early rifle with a few later replacement parts.
