(ca 1955) 22" Barrel fitted with Johnson muzzle brake adding another 2-1/2" is engraved "Holland & Holland, 13, Bruton Street, London." on top. Barrel is fitted with one standing, one folding leaf express rear sight in island base, and matching front base fitted with H&H type sight protector over silver bead. Sling eye is in sleeved on partial band. Rear portion of barrel is engraved "Holland's .30 "SUPER"" and stamped with London nitro proofs. FN Model '98 type action is fitted with Holland & Holland style offset bases. Bright polished bolt has early style shroud and flag safety engraved "SAFE". Trigger is single stage and aluminum drop box bottom metal with hinged floorplate retained by button in trigger guard bow, has been installed. Action, mounts, and bottom metal are engraved in near full coverage large open scrolling acanthus. Front portion of bottom metal behind take down screw is engraved "MADE IN ENGLAND". Floorplate is engraved "MODELE DELUXE" on scrolled ribbon. Serial number is on trigger guard bow. Rifle takes down by removal of front guard screw slotted for use with coin, with barrel and receiver lifting out of stock. Stock of European walnut with fine quilted figure measures 14 - 3/8" over red open sided White Line pad and features steel trap grip cap with spare front sights in trap, large swept shadow line right hand cheekpiece, slight Monte Carlo to comb, recoil reinforcing bolt, and classically styled point borderless checkering at grip and forend. A large gold crest plate on toe line is engraved with coat of arms featuring griffin rampant, holding thistle over shield quartered with thistles and griffins, all over the motto "Clarum Reddit Industria" (Milne family ?). Weight without scope: 8 lbs 3 oz. Rifle is accompanied by Zeiss Diavari - DA 1.5 - 6 X scope with crosshair and post reticle in H&H rings, rear ring engraved "Holland & Holland No. 2475". Rifle is also accompanied by leather carrying sling. Rifle is housed in full length tan leather case lined in burgundy cloth. Holland and Holland gold embossed black leather label is in lid along with charge card for this particular rifle and instruction label for take down. Case contains its key in black morocco wallet. CONDITION: Very good, original as found. Barrel retains 30 - 40% original blue with considerable loss due to flaking and cleaning. Receiver retains most of its original blue with some cleaned rusting on rear portion of bridge (probably a blood spot). Black finish of bottom metal is considerably silvered on floorplate from normal hand wear. There is considerable loss to original finish on stock, around action, and top of comb. Bore is excellent with sharp strong rifling throughout. Action is smooth. Scope has many marks and some heavy rubs in its lacquer finish. Optically somewhat fogged, needs cleaning. Case leather is darkening with many scuffs, marks, and scratches. Corners are missing. Interior cloth is good. Labels are rubbed and foxed. Partitions are somewhat loose. Interior is quite dirty. Sling leather is beginning to deteriorate and rip. With a bit of work this could turn out to be an attractive rifle. MGM 112
