Barrel has all matching "R" proofs of Remington manufacture. Barrel dates to 8/18, with "Flaming Bomb" Ordnance bomb proof. Stock and action bear matching World War I eagle’s head acceptance stamp. Also has Eagle head proof "500" at bottom of wrist and "339" at bottom of forestock. "R" stamp also present at forefront of stock. The bottom of the floorplate has the eagle plate proof number 314. Eagle head also present on bolt release. Has flaming bomb on left side of frame. Bolt has flaming bomb and is stamped R for Remington. Original "R"-proofed match sights. CONDITION: 95% original factory blue on barrel. Buttplate retains 75% original bluing. Stock retains original oiled finish, with slight handing marks and no visible cracks. Fine bore. Smooth-functioning action, possibly unfired. One of the finest all original 1917s one could hope to find. Vast majority of these are found rebuilt with mismatched parts and refinished for the Second World War. Examples such as this simply do not turn up anymore. Appears unissued and unfired. R at forefront of stock
