This gun has a barrel date of 11/09, matching the dates for the serial number, 394583 (1909). Action appears to function correctly. Case hardening remains on safety and protected areas. Rear sight is graduated up to 2700 yards and has the proper machined dish sight adjustments, knurled with groove. Has the correct early features to include the high hump hand guard, wide finger groove, single stock reinforcing bolt, and straight rear stock without taper. Has James F. Coyle inspection cartouche in rectangle above trigger guard on left side. Coyle started his service as an inspector in 1907. Has the cursive P on bottom of wrist. CONDITION: All metal parts retain 90% of the bright original early factory bluing and even the mid barrel band retains nearly all of the original high polish blue, including floor plate and buttplate, which also sports the early fine checkered style. The wood, aside from a few minor handling marks, is in near mint condition with beautiful rich color. TE reading: 5. ME reading: 1.5. Comes with front sight cover and an aftermarket Thomas J Conroy rear sight cover. It is getting nearly impossible to find these super high condition post World War I Springfields that have not been rebuilt with this much original condition.
