The total quantity made of these unique guns is unknown, but it is estimated to be slightly less than 1,500 with 1,250 of them being sold to the US Government. Made between 1855 and 1856. These were known to have been issued early in the Civil War to the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Ohio Cavalry. Each regiment receiving 100 guns. The 6th Ohio Cavalry was issued 250 of these guns. CONDITION: All metal surfaces retain a pleasing patina overall with pitting. The inside of the lever has has 75% strong case colors. Markings are clear. The front sight is missing. The rear sight appears to be a replacement. Brass has a pleasing dark color to it. The barrel band has a hole in the top of it, with what looks to be a cut off brass screw in it, "L" on the right side, secured to stock by single screw through bottom as is correct. Stock has a old repaired crack in the wrist on both sides, solid. The toe of the stock has a small chip, looks to have been very slightly reshaped in an attempt to fix the chip. No visible cartouche. The lock does not cock, although there is good spring tension. Bore is very good with strong rifling and some areas of pitting.
