The 15th Regiment, Company B of the Massachusetts Volunteers saw action in most of the major battles of the Civil War. At Antietam on September 17th, 1862 they suffered a loss of over half of their 600 men. They fought at Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Battle of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg. The presentation on the backstrap reads "Lieutenant James May Company B 15th Regiment Mass Vol. Presented by his friends in Fitchburg US". Given that this revolver was manufactured in 1872, without the Washington war records we are unable to determine if he fought in the Civil War, joined later, or if this was given to him by friends in honor of his service. If one has the time to get to Washing to study the rosters, it would be interesting to see which, if any, of these battles he fought in. CONDITION: Octagon barrel retains approximately 80% original blue. Stagecoach scene cylinder retains approximately 75% original blue. Brass straps have toned with no signs of plating. Case colors have faded to a dark grey. One piece walnut grips are excellent and retain most of their varnish. Full or partial matching numbers on barrel, frame, grip strap and backstrap cylinder. Indexes correctly. Fine, strong, clean bore.
