Blade is etched in imitation of Turkish Damascus. The heavily curved, wide fullered 28" blade is decorated on the right side with a Turk wearing a turban, the left side with trophies of arms, calligraphy and a crest with gilt sun and splendor, a gilt brass hilt is cast and chased in relief with vines and scrolls. The grip scales of ivory. The heavy scabbard of cast and chased silver has gilt carrying rings, chape and locket, embossed with scrolls, florals and panels. CONDITION: The blade is in excellent condition with only minor wear to the gilding and little if any wear to the etching. The right ivory grip scale has a 1" section next to the cross guard period replaced. Expected age cracks in both panels, but none go through. Gilding on mounts is mostly intact, with some minor wear on high spots and several dents on left side of chape. Silver is excellent with no significant dents of damage. An extremely showy and important Mamluk saber.
