Similar in design to the Browning BSS sidelock, also made by Miroku, this uncataloged Miroku gun has some additional features. It has two sets of 26" chopper lump barrels, differing in chokes. Each set has slightly raised, flat matted game rib marked with gauge and chamber and Miroku address on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with serial numbers with suffix A and B along with Japanese nitro proofs. Set A is marked for chokes 3 and 1 (IC and full ?), whereas set B is marked S and 3 (skeet and IC ?). Coin finished sidelock action features automatic safety, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers (front articulated). This model differs from the BSS in that the locks are hand detachable with hidden takedown screw on left lockplate. Engraving on this gun is more extensive than that found on the BSS, and is traditional rose and scroll. "B. C. Miroku" is on bottom of action. Serial number is on blued trigger guard tang. Well streaked and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over brown Old English rifle pad. Stock features drop points, and well cut point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip. A silver oval is on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend with Anson release services both barrel sets. Gun and barrels are housed in russet leather case with riveted on brass plated corners. Case is lined in green felt. Case contains a pair of snap caps and a walnut handled tool. CONDITION: Excellent with evidence of considerable field use. Barrels have a large number of light scratches on sides of left barrels. Action and lockplates retain essentially all of their coin finish. Stocks have a number of light marks in their original finish which has some wear on high points. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Mechanically very fine. Case is very fine with scratches on exterior. Interior cloth is fine. Includes two cardboard boxes. A rugged, well balanced, useful gun. MGM 107
