Sword has chiseled two ring cross guard and fluted ovoid iron pommel. Perhaps 17th century. Blade is 4' long, double edged and sharp throughout its length with flat Ricasso with two flutes on each side. The chiseled cross guard with two rings is 19" across and relief chiseled on both sides with a beaded board, and relief chiseled tipped quillion. The ovoid pommel is fluted with slashed decoration on high points appears to be period and original to the sword. The 14" long grip is ribbed and wrapped with copper wire, which appears ancient. CONDITION: Fine for a sword of this period, blade shows minor battle nicks on both sides, mostly toward the front. A truly spectacular two handed sword, not to be considered with the usual 17th and 19th century bearing swords, or processional swords, which were never meant to be used in a fight.
