This extremely rare brass bullet mold is the only one known at the present time that is marked and documented to a Confederate supplier. The mold is stamped on the right side "H.B. EVANS/ JACKSON/ MISS." While on loan to the museum in Jackson during the 1960's it was researched and documented. The mold was originally acquired in 1959 from the individual who found it around the Shiloh Battlefield. The mold has been owned by William Dykes since 1959 and he has allowed only one illustration in a publication. This possibly unique mold was exhibited at the Jackson State Museum and Grand Gulf Museum. The mold is entirely of brass construction with an iron screw holding the two pieces together. It has a cavity for an approximately .54 caliber minieball with three grooves and a long base. The projectile itself, when cast would measure about 1-1/4" in length. The mold measures about 8" long with a cavity of about 1-9/16" x 1" x 1". CONDITION: Excellent. Clearly stamped markings and retains a very dark patina. This rare mold is accompanied by a signed latter from William Dykes.
