Slightly curved steel blade with two partial fullers on each side and etched panels on both sides. One side features an eagle, the other side "US". Cast brass hilt with pierced guard featuring florals and foliate scrolls. Leather wrapped wooden grip with twisted brass wire wrap. Complete with black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Right side of the throat mount in inscribed "Presented to/ No. 1st Lieut. Eli Bangs/ By Co. E/ 5th Del. Vol." CONDITION: Fair. Blade shows heavy wear and retains a spotted grey patina. Hilt retains a mellow patina with generous traces of gilt finish in protected areas. Grip very good with some losses to surface on leather. Quillon slightly bent. Scabbard good with a crazed surface overall, some stitching on bottom half of scabbard is absent, and there are some losses to surfaces and a repair above the drag. Brass mounts retain a mellow patina with some denting.
