This early perch belly stock Model 1899 features the non-checkered pistol grip stock and the first that we have seen; we can find no other example pictured in either of the books written on the Savage Model. Also features the desirable 26" octagon barrel with Marbles flip-up sight and Beach style folding globe front sight. All matching numbers on buttstock, forend and buttplate. CONDITION: The frame of this rifle retains approximately 90% of the original, early high polish blue finish with some light freckling and high edge wear. Barrel retains approximately 95% or better original blue. Walnut stocks are excellent. Rifle is equipped with sling eyes and a Lyman tang rear sight. Nice case colors on lever. Action is like new. Strong, pronounced rifled bore. You will go to a lot of gun shows before you ever see this combination again on an early Savage Model 1899. Beautiful, early and scarce Savage.
