This revolver was part of the third and fourth Army contractof 1898 in which 4,600 revolvers were shipped in July and August of 1898, serial numbers 100xxx to 105xxx. These were delivered prior to the armistice with Spain and issued during the fighting in Cuba. This Spanish American War shipped revolver features the inspector stamp "RAC" Renaldo Carr on left side of frame and back of cylinder. "K" and "P" inspector stamps can be found on the underside of the barrel. The cylinder release is stamped "K927" as well as inside the yoke. The stationary part of the yoke is stamped "927" and "9". Left side of the smooth walnut grips is stamped "1898" with the "DMT" inspector stamp of Captain D.M. Taylor; bottom of left grip is also stamped "RAC". The right grip has the faded cartouche of Renaldo Carr. All of this information can be obtained in the book "A Study of Colt's New Army & Navy Pattern Double Action Revolver 1889 to 1908" by Robert Best. CONDITION: Revolver retains approximately 75-80% original factory blue with the balance turning patina and some light age freckling. There is still some fire blue on back of hammer and trigger. Indexes and locks up like a vault. Sharp rifled bore with lightly frosted grooves. Accompanied by an original period "US" holster, original period .38 caliber web cartridge belt dated "1894" in excellent condition, a leather "RIA 1905" cartridge pouch and a box of 20 .38 revolver cartridges for Colt's Double Action dated 1912. Holster shows some cracking with a loose toe plug. Cartridge box still sealed but coming loose on edges. It is extremely difficult to find a non-upgraded all original 1894 Model that was shipped in two Army contracts to Cuba prior to the end of the war. A beautiful Spanish American War revolver with belt and other later dated accessories for this model.
