This militia musket features a round smooth bore steel barrel with bayonet lug on top, near muzzle. The breech is stamped "52" on top and "P/IP" and "M/1827" on left side. The lock features a flat stamp engraved plate marked "TARRAT/WARRANTED". Plain unengraved bass furniture, brass trigger, and brass ram rod ferules. Plain full length walnut stock. Complete with steel ram rod and triangular socket bayonet numbered on top of socket to match rack number "52" on breech. CONDITION: Fair. Barrel retains a gray patina with areas of dark spotting and some corrosion near touch hole. The lock has been reconverted to flintlock configuration. Brass has been cleaned and now retains a mellowing patina with some scattered marks from use. Stock has been sanded and has some hairline cracks along forend and opposite lock as well as scattered marks from use. Trigger guard finial is slightly bent out. Bayonet retains a gray patina with some areas of heavy corrosion. A nice example of a New England Militia musket.
