Extremely late production Henry rifle. These rare rifles were distinctly different from the earlier production. Manufactured in 1866 this rifle is made with a round type chamber area as opposed to the octagon pattern made prior. Two line Henry's Patent address on barrel and ladder style Henry rear sight mounted on barrel. Serial number 12464 is found on top barrel flat at chamber as well as on left side of lower tang and on the interior of the butt plate. Butt stock is stamped with serial number inside of stock mortise. This rifle is believed to have been a parts clean up rifle. The barrel is mounted with a proper sling swivel but no provision for a sling swivel is found on the numbers matching butt stock. CONDITION. Good as all original and a rare variation. The barrel is a soft brown patina with a modified blade front sight. The rear sight is graduated to 1000 yards and is the proper late variation. The Gun metal brass frame has attained a mellow mustard coloring and has typical scratches and nicks. The upper tang has a crack going across the width of the tang at the forward retaining screw. The stock is very weathered and dry Several large bruises and dents exist and a chip at the toe is evident. The butt plate is a matching mustard color. Thus is a nice honest Henry rifle that was surely used in the Western expansion. TDW CORRECTION: Estimate changed.
