This exceptional rifle features both condition and rarity. According to the factory letter, serial No. 91592 was shipped on October 6th, 1894 with a 30" extra heavy octagon barrel in .40-82 caliber with plain trigger. It is also listed as a takedown, which it plainly is not. Shipped for repair and return on November 25th, 1896; work not noted.CONDITION: Barrel retains 95% or better original blue. Magazine tube retains 90% blue although patina is starting to show through and blend, and a couple of minor handling marks. Action retains 85% of fading original case colors with some flashes of brilliance. Lever retains 50% or better colors, and some nice colors remain on hammer as well. Wood retains 85% of original finish, upper left forearm at frame has a closed 2" hairline that is very faint and still intact. Buttplate retains traces of fading case color but has basically patterned out. Most screws are true with the exception of the left forend cap screw which is slightly marred. Gun functions correctly. Excellent bore. Overall an excellent heavy barrel Model 1886.
