Built on the Allen's patent and stamped on top of the hammer, the left side of the hammer is stamped "J.G. BOLEN NY". Barrel is stamped "PATENTED 1847 CAST STEEL". Features six shot, double action and walnut bag handles. The frame is engraved and fire blued. CONDITION: 75% fire blue remains on frame, blending with soft patina. Backstrap is patina. Front strap is grey patina. Trigger guard has flashes of original blue but is basically patina. Barrels retain 75-85% of the original browned finish. Barrel screw still has nearly all of its fire blue. Mirror bores showing no signs of having ever been fired. Housed in its original walnut dealer display case that reads "BOLEN'S LIFE AND PROPERTY PRESERVERS / IMPORTANT TO TRAVELERS AND HOUSEKEEPERS / PATENTED SELF COCKING REVOLVER PISTOLS" with a large image of this exact pistol. Case is lined in red velvet and partitioned. Cylinder flask has a red rice paper style outer skin, is plunger type and not maker marked. Ebony turnscrew is missing blade. Little box with lead projectiles. Box is in excellent condition. While English cased pepperboxes are not unusual, seldom do you see and American cased dealer set.
