There was a time in the mid-19th century that every city dandy and every nickel and dime riverboat gambler carried a pepperbox revolver. The only American revolver at that time was the Colt Paterson, which was even in its smallest state, packed no punch and was larger; this allowed the carrier to pack a lot of punch in a small package. In this case, six .32 caliber lead bullets propelled by black powder as fast as you could pull the trigger. It was such a formidable weapon at the time everybody wanted these little life protectors. They had a perfectly shaped round bag handles made of varnished walnut, were not too heavy, top firing and very reliable with a heavy trigger pull not suitable to some of the resident dandies but easily tamed by any normal size person. The barrels were fluted where you can find the maker's mark on one panel. Manufactured in Worcester. CONDITION: Fluted barrels are presently a smooth, homogenous soft brown patina. Frame is lightly engraved, currently in the white and sports the detachable nipple shield. Walnut bag handles are beautiful. Double action moves the chambers forward right to left and are accurately aligned. About as good protection as you can get in the 1830's to 1850's.
