John Martz was a skilled craftsman in northern California who would take German military hand guns and convert them into unique firearms. One of his more unusual efforts, this gun mated a P38 to a 12.75" Artillery Luger type barrel that has a drift adjustable front sight and a standard WW1 artillery rear sight graduated from 1-8. The usual rear sight has been taken down, now contoured to the slide. The left side of the slide was marked with the Walther banner/ P38/ followed by a two line Martz Custom 9mm legend. The right side of the slide marked "Lincoln, Calif./ USA". The pistol serial number 4900d adjacent to a thin waffenamt is on the left side of the frame. Barrel lug number 1884c; locking block 884. Fitted with late war chocolate brown composite grips and a post war Walther magazine marked with the Walther banner/ P38 9mm on the left side near the detachable floorplate. The main components are polished and in the white; strawed takedown lever, slide release, hammer, and trigger. Salt blued magazine. CONDITION: Excellent as customized by John Martz. Bright in the white metal showing minimal staining and a few flecks of oxidation. Strawed parts retaining virtually all their color. Excellent grips and magazine. Mirror bore. Perfect manual mechanics. A desirable John Martz conversion.
