Offered is one of the Colt Single Action Armies produced in 1982 in commemoration of John Wayne, who had died only a few years earlier. Colt poured a significant amount of affection into the piece and it shows, as this is one of the finest commemorative revolvers produced and only a limited run of 3100 were made. Features include fixed sights, a two tone hammer polished to a mirror shine on the sides, faux ivory grips, and elaborate gold engraving on a beautiful black finish. On the left side of the barrel is an eagle holding a stylized United States Great Seal and flags with "John Wayne" on a flowing banner underneath. The right side of the barrel features scroll work down the side and a smaller golden line of scroll work on the ejector tube. The cylinder is further engraved with famous scenes of Wayne, including him mounted upon a horse, and his portrait, both in gold. On the extreme edges of the cylinder is golden rope. On the left side of the frame, Colt's patent information and trademark Colt horse are displayed in gold, with light scroll work oriented towards the grips. On the right side, scroll work extends along the length of the frame. The backstrap bears John Wayne's signature in gold, and at the top features the famous Red River D logo, also in gold. Comes with factory display case, which is fitted to the revolver. CONDITION: This firearm is in near mint condition. It retains 99+% of its factory applied finish, with sharp legends and unmarred engraving. The only flaw we could find is the ghost of a drag line on one cylinder chamber and the others show no sign of one, indicating that the gun was cocked once and never fired. Case is in similar excellent condition showing only a few light handling and storage marks. An absolutely beautiful gun that would be the centerpiece of any John Wayne or Western collection.
