Little seems to be known about the origin of the so-called "Raphael" revolvers. It is believed some 1000 examples were purchased for the Union Army from Raphael & Company in New York and, by repute, Mr. Raphael was an acquaintance of President Lincoln. However, though apparently manufactured in France, lack of any maker or patentee markings make further attribution difficult. Features rifled round barrel with rounded muzzle. Top of barrel marked "Laine Bte. Argr. A Paris Tir National". Barrel lug, frame, cylinder, trigger guard and buttcap are finished in the white and engraved with scrolling florals. Varnished figured walnut grips. Lanyard ring, the base unscrewing to form the cartridge ejector. CONDITION: Excellent. Grips showing some scattered marks. Exterior of case with a few minor marks; lining showing some wear and staining. PROVENANCE: Previously from the Dave Dermon II collection.
