This Spencer is a post-war alteration performed by Springfield Armory. The barrel was cut from 22" to 20" and sleeved with a three groove rifling. The stabler cut-off has been removed. Features a round barrel, Spencer spring-based rear leaf sight, walnut stocks, single band, and carbine butt. CONDITION: Barrel is basically a soft brown patina with some wipe down finish. Frame was redone at time of conversion and some of the letter is soft. It too is all brown patina. Saddle ring bar has been removed. Rear sling swivel has been removed. Stock has been redone and the cartouches are gone. Action is fine and the bore exhibits strong rifling with some minor black powder abrasion. These were widely used weapons in the Civil War as well as the later Indian Wars.
