32" Heavy barrels with narrow, matted rib are marked with Chromox steel information and Fox Philadelphia address on top. There are 1-1/2" triangles of scroll engraving at breech ends. Barrel flats with damascened highlights on sides are stamped "H" "C" and with serial number, Fox proof, and "BARRELS NOT GUARANTEED - SEE TAG". This guarantee refers to shot pattern, not strength, and is found on nearly all Becker bored Super Foxes indicating special 3" chambers for the Winchester Super X magnum shell. These barrels are known for their especially tight patterns. The double grade stamping appears to be original and most likely a client wanted a "C" grade gun on short order and an "H" grade already in production, was substituted and finished with "C" engraving and wood. This is confirmed by copy of factory order card for this gun stamped "RUSH" with grade noted as "HE - C" and "CE grade engraving and checkering". Case hardened robust Fox boxlock type action is marked with patent dates, serial number, and "H" on water table, and features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved in typical "C" style with 70% coverage scroll within line and geometric borders surrounding vignettes of game birds on sides under "ANSLEY H. FOX". Bottom of action portrays a setter in circular vignette. Trigger plate is scroll engraved, as is trigger guard bow. Serial number is on tang. Well streaked and slightly fiddle figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 13-5/8" over black leather faced Silver type pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and side panels are checkered in usual "C" style. Matching splinter ejector forend has inset ebony tip and Deeley type release. CONDITION: Fine as partially refinished. Barrels retain nearly all of a good quality re-black. Action retains 30 - 40% original light case hardening color, the balance silver to pewter gray. Stock retains what appears to be its original surface with many scratches and lines, with oil added as maintenance. Grip cap is considerably worn, possibly replaced. Checkering re-cut. There is a repaired crack on left side panel which runs into checkering. Bores are fine to very fine, shiny, with evidence of polishing, and some dent removal. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time.
