Lot consists of: Gun (A) Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor featuring left side VP eagle proof, 1873 rear sight, two barrel bands, block is stamped "US 1878", one piece full length walnut stock, sling swivels on front band and trigger guard. Sideplate is stamped "US SPRINGFIELD" with eagle. Left side has original visible but unreadable cartouche. Wrist has circular "P" stamp. Original cleaning rod. CONDITION: All metal is a homogeneous brown smooth patina with razor sharp legends. Stock is extremely nice with a few minor bruises. Muzzle end has a little freckling. Near mint bore. A far above average 1878 dated trapdoor. Gun (B) is an old half stock percussion fowler with octagon to round barrel, walnut half stock, back action lock stamped "J.M. WEED". Brass furniture and period oak ramrod. CONDITION: Fairly clean bore. Barrel has added wipe on finish. Working condition. Stock has a few minor cracks that once fixed would leave you with a handsome authentic mid-century fowling piece.
