The overall condition of this visor is excellent. This visor originally started out as a Heer Infantry Officer's Visor which was converted, most likely postwar, to a Waffen SS. The upper portion of the visor is made of a feldgrau tricot wool which is in near mint condition. The visor's band is now a black felt, which was added to convert the visor to SS most likely as a way of raising the value. Evidence of the stitching used to secure the black velvet band can be seen near the edges of the white piping and the velvet is very loose in the middle areas. The chin cord is an officer's grade in near mint condition. The bill of the visor is near mint as well, and is securely fastened to the body of the visor. Evidence of handling can be seen on the bill's underside. The cap's skull is no longer present, but the eagle is still attached. The SS zinc eagle is in excellent condition, with much of the silver wash remaining and appears to be made by Wagner. The interior of the visor is a cream colored rayon that shows some staining, most likely from sweat. There is an area on the front of the visor where the lining has become detached from the body. The original sweat shield has become unstitched and fallen out, but the maker's name can clearly still be seen and reads "Clemens Wagner".
