(ca 1920) Robert Robinson was working in Hull between 1917 and 1938. It appears that he bought guns in from the trade and finished them himself. This gun has 30" dovetailed barrels with narrow, swamped game rib engraved "R. Robinson Queen St Hull". Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for 2 - 1/2" chambers. Case hardened sidelock action is stocked to the fences and features automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pivoting third fastener engaging dolls head rib extension, engraved line tumbler end cocking indicators, and double triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage very well cut scroll with scattered rose bouquet highlights. "R. ROBINSON" is on nicely detailed riband on each lockplate. Blued top lever and trigger guard with matching scroll, has serial number on trigger guard tang. Lightly marbled and nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 - 1/2" over ribbed horn buttplate, and features well shaped drop points, point pattern checkering on semi-diamond hand, and vacant silver oval on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. Gun is housed in green canvas covered case with brass corners. (Possibly original since gun fits perfectly) Case is lined in green cloth and has C. D. Vaughan gold embossed label in lid. Case contains cleaning equipment. CONDITION: Very good, as partially refinished. Barrels retain most of an old re-black with numerous subsequent marks and scratches, engraving softened. Action retains traces of original case hardening color, balance mostly pewter gray. Stocks retain a considerable amount old finish, which appears to be original, with numerous marks. 1/4" x 1" chip is missing from right side of buttplate, and 2" section of lower left stock horn replaced. There is a 1-1/2" crack in bottom of forend under ejectors. Bores are fine, lightly pitted. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are weak, but in time. Exterior case is faded with many rubs. Handle is missing. Interior cloth is fine. Label is fine. MGM 105
