Engraved and silver plated Winchester 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured in 1872. Embellished with wide scrolls and vines with a dot punch background with center left open for presentation. Top of receiver bridge has sunburst engraving while a clam shell and intertwined border continues down top of receiver towards hammer. Upper tang is likewise embellished with smaller scrolls and dot punch back ground with further embellishment around tang screw/ Elevator lifter in engraved on a diamond cross hatch pattern with dots centered in the diamonds. . Frame, lever and butt plate silver plated with barrel being left blue finish. Serial number 101074 found on lower tang with 1074 being found on tang mortise on butt stock. Butt plate is serial number matching on inside at toe.. No markings are found on inside of tangs during disassembly. Two line Winchester address is found on top of barrel. Two piece American walnut stocks with engraved crescent but plate with trap for cleaning rods. CONDITION. Good as partially restored. Engraving is relatively sharp and distinct with slight wear and rounding at high points. Over 45% of the silver plate remains with balance having worn off to expose the gunmetal brass receiver. Barrel and magazine have lost most all factory applied finish and have attained a light brown patina finish. Hammer retains 40% thinning case colors. Two piece American walnut stocks have most of their contemporary finish remaining with numerous small dents and bruises.Buttplate is very good with 25% silver plate remaining Bore is excellent with bright grooves and sharp rifling with slight darkening in edges.
