Serial numbered 18614 under wood line on bottom tang and manufactured in 1869. Henry's Patent two line address on barrel foreword of rear 1st model carbine sight. Early pattern front barrel band with integral front sight. Two piece American walnut stocks with crescent butt plate with trap for cleaning rods. Butt stock numbered with full serial number in tang mortise and buttplate is numbers matching as well. Early 1866 carbines typically saw hard use and their survival in fine condition is uncommon. These successful "Yellow Boys" have always been prized by collectors and historians alike. CONDITION. Fine overall. Barrel and magazine are a dove grey finish with brownish patina in protected areas. The two piece American walnut stocks are oil finished and have numerous small period abrasions and bruises as well as one lifted wood chip on left side of forearms at band. The gun metal brass frame and butt have a very attractive uncleaned dark mustard coloring. Bore has several areas of darkness with strong rifling. The action is crisp and functions properly. This early internally numbered carbine is a far better than average example and would be a fine addition to any Collection of Winchesters or Western Americana. TDW
