One of the most desirable configurations of the Winchester 1886 Rifle. Manufactured in 1904 and shipped with 26 inch full octagon barrel full magazine. Takedown with checkered pistol grip with cap and forearm stocks of American walnut with crescent butt plate. Hammer and lever are vividly case colored and receiver is blue finish. Sporting blade front sight with nickel silver insert. Ladder adjustable rear sight Left barrel flat marked Nickel steel and to flat over chamber marked 45-70. Lower tang is assembly number marked 337. This same number is found in the stock /tang mortise and at the toe of the butt plate. The rifle is documented from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody WY , as having been shipped in 1904 as , rifle, 45/70 CAL Octagon barrel, Plain trigger, plain stock pistol grip checkered rifle butt . Takedown, Nickel steel sighted 100 yards CONDITION. Very fine. Barrel retains over 95% bright vivid blue finish . Magazine tube is equally fine three small points of corrosion on bottom. Receiver has over 90% of its bright factory applied blue finish with a small area of corrosion at the forward edge at the takedown joint. Two small spots of finish loss are evident at the top of the receiver at rear of bolt. The stocks are very fine with mast all the factory varnish remaining. Butt plate case colors have turned silver. Truly a fine example of one of the finest rifles ever produced by Winchester. TDW
