Factory engraved in the style of Gustave Young. Manufactured in 1864. This 4 1/2 inch barreled Model 1862 Police Colt Pocket revolver was manufactured and finished in blue and case colored finishes with one piece select walnut grips. The proprietary fluted cylinder and diminutive size make this model one of the most elegant of all Colt percussion revolvers. CAL. 36 percussion with five shot cylinder and single line New York address. Elaborately engraved in Young's tight floral scroll with coverage on frame , recoil shield, barrel bolster , backstrap , trigger guard and the Wolf's head scene on the hammer flats. Serial number 26948 with the small "E" indicating factory engraved. found to have all matching numbers including barrel retaining wedge. CONDITION. Fair to good overall. Small traces of blue finish remain in protected areas of barrel under lever. Case colors remain in small areas of lever. Balance of exterior has attained an even plum brown patina with scattered salt and pepper corrosion in some areas. Bore is slightly frosted at rear but gain twist rifling is very strong. Grips are solid and full sized with much original factory varnish remaining. Cylinder fails to index properly when cocked indicating that a broken or weak pawl spring needs replacement. Hammer fails to engage in half cock but full cock is functional. An attractive , matching civil war period "62" Police revolver engraved by one of Colts finest artisans. TDW
