Classic 1st Model 1873 with thumbprint dust cover. Manufactured in our Centennial year of 1876 with early correct rear sight and front sight integral with front barrel band. Chambered for the 44-40 Cartridge these are the guns that won the west. Two piece American walnut stocks with carbine buttplate equipped with cleaning rod trap. Blue finish with case colored hammer and lever. Early 1st Model 1873 Winchesters have a very low survival rate and have always been very desired by collectors in original unaltered condition. CONDITION. Very good overall with most all blue finish having turned plumb patina with balance being dove grey from use. The wood stocks have been very lightly sanded and a oil finish applied a long time ago. The bore is near perfect with sharp rifling and very bright. The action and mechanics are in proper order and function properly. TDW
