Six shot steel barrel cluster with solid ribs between each. Each breech numbered and each flute stamped with alternating English view and proof marks. Pactong bar hammer percussion action, profusely engraved with English scrollwork. The right side marked "IMPROVED/REVOLVING PISTOL", the other "J. BEATTIE/223 REGENT ST. LONDON". Integral silver gripstraps engraved en suite. Steel triggerguard and double action mechanism. Varnished walnut grip panels. Complete with original oak case with partitioned interior lined with green wool. Lid has a brass escutcheon with heraldic boar's head and "AUDACTOR". Accessories include steel bullet mold, small flask, wooden ramrod with brass tip, and English Eley percussion cap tin of brass. CONDITION: Pistol in good condition, barrels retain a freckles brown patina, hammer and triggerguard cleaned and retaining a freckled grey patina. Frame very good with sharp engraving. Grips with scattered marks from use. Case very good, as relined, accessories good to very good. A nice larger than usual pepperbox pistol. James Beattie worked at Regent Street between 1836 and 1846, then went into partnership with Henry in 1847.
