Lot contains: nine 18th and 19th century documents from the Antis/Antes family, including officer commissions. (A) Commission of Henry Antis Esquire dated at Philadelphia 21 may, 1777, appointing him Lieutenant Colonel of the 4th Battalion of Militia in the County of Northumberland. It is signed Timothy Matlack, and Thomas Wharton as President. This document is printed on vellum with manuscript insertions and a seal. 14 - 3/16 by 9 - 5/16 inches. CONDITION: Very Fine, especialy for an early comision as they were carried on the person at all times during the war. (B) "Oath of Affirmation of Allegiance and Fidelity" of Colonel Henry Antis Esquire, dated 28 July, 1777. Signed by Thomas Hewitt and printed on paper by John Dunlap, with manuscript insertions. 4 by 6 - 1/2 inches. CONDITION: Very Good. (C) Commission of Jacob Antis dated at Lancaster, Pa. on March 31, 1803, appointing him Captain of the 1st Company to the one hundred and second Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia. It is signed by Thomas McKean as Governor, and T.M. Thompson, Secretary. It is printed on paper with manuscript insertions and a fine seal. 13 - 1/2 by 16 inches. CONDITION: Very Good, with some fold creases, some very small holes that do not effect the text and a few small edge tears of not consequence. (D) Commission of Jacob Antis dated at Lancaster, Pa. Augus 3, 1807, appointing him Major of the 2nd Battalion of the one hundred and second Regiment of Pennsylvania Militia. It is signed by Thomas McKean as Governor and T.M. Thompson, Secretary. This document is printed on paper watermarked "AR" by F. Bailey. There are manuscript insertions and a fine seal. 12 - 1/8 by 15 - 3/8 inches. CONDITION: Very Good, with fold creases, some very small holes that do not effect the text and a few small edge tears of not consequence. (E) Commission of William N. Cleland, dated at Lancaster, Pa on February 21, 1811, appointing him Major of the 1st Battalion of the one hundred and sixth Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia. It is signed by Simeon Snyder as Governer and James Trimble, Secretary. This document was printed by John Binns on paper with manuscript insertions and a fine seal. 13 - 3/8 by 15 - 5/8 inches. CONDITION: Good. Folds reinforced on the reverse with old-type transparent tape and light toning overall. (F) Transcript of Judgement of James Collins Vs. William Antes, dated March 29, 1823. It is a full manuscript on paper. 5 - 5/32 by 7 - 5/8 inches. CONDITION: Good. (G) Commission of William Antes, Jr. dated at Harrisburg, Pa. August 3, 1842, appointing him Captain of the 8th Company of the Fifty-fourth Regiment of the Pennsylvania Militia. It is signed by David R. Porter as Governor and Charles McClure (?) as Secretary. This document is printed on paper with manuscript insertions and a very elaborate, large plate Spencerian-form Great Seal and Governor heading. A fine seal is also attached. 17 - 3/8 by 13 - 7/8 inches. CONDITION: Very Good, with some slight fold separation and two small holes at the horizontal center fold. The text is not effected. (H) Judgement of Davidson & Reed Vs. William W. Antes, dated November 21, 1848. This document is full manuscript on paper. 5 by 7 - 3/4 inches. Condition: Good, with irregular edges and sall tears. (I) Oath of Office for William W. Antes making him "Overseer for the Township of Neppenose", Lycoming County, Pa., dated January 6, 1860. This document is full manuscript on paper. 5 by 8 inches.
