JOHNSON, Sir William (1715-1774) as Superintendant of Indian Affairs. Autograph document signed ((hereafter ADS ) to Major Jellis Fonda, dated Johnson Hall, 4 April 1770. 1 page, quarto, with folds and docketing on recto, "encapsulated between two 1/8 inch sheets of plexiglass, joined together with screws. Very fine. Johnson writes to Jellis Fonda (1727-1791),first merchant in the Mohawk Valley west of Schenectady and a close friend and associate of Sir William, to "please to let the Bearer a Cayuga Indian have 3 pound[s] of Gunpowder on my Acc[oun]t. & 4 pound of Shot."
