"Return of the men Mustered for nine months for the Town of Attelborough in Collo. John Daggetts Regiment" [7 July 1778], ADS, 2 pp., folio, fair with toning and some losses to margins, small splits in folds. A rare descriptive list in columnar format, for 20 men mustered from the regiment as nine-month levies for Continental service, each listed by company, name, age, height and complexion, eye color, town and county or country of origin. For example, Oliver Lincoln of Captain Keith's Company was 38, stood 6 feet tall, "light complection" with dark hair and gray eyes, from Easton in Bristol County, while Pierre Gilit of Captain White's Company was 26, 5 foot three, light complexion and black hair and eyes and hailed "from france". Below, Colonel John Dagett of the 4th Regiment, Massachusetts Militia, writes a short memorandum to Brigadier General Godfrey, noting that "I have raised , mustered and Delivered ...28 Men from my Regiment as Discribed in the foregoing List", noting that two companies were deficient a total of four men, as "32 was the proportion from said Regiment." On the recto of this return is a document, dated Norton, 20 May 1778, "A Return of the men Inlisted in Norton agreable to the orders of the Massachusetts State of the 20th April Last to Raise two thousand men in sd State to fill up the fifteen Battalions ...in the Service of the United States nine months from the time they arrive in Camp at Fish Kill unless Sooner Discharged to Wit: [what follows are the names and descriptions of the 8 additional levies of the 28 total on the opposite side, which includes "London Movey age 26 years 5-4 Inches high a Negro Black &c &c", as well as three men from Norton who have overstayed their furloughs from the Army, one being an 8-month draftee and the other two men being enlisted for three years in the Continental Line (one being "Nathaniel Movey", possibly a near-relative to London); with 2) Jabez Rockwell "To the Committee of Pay Table", dated Preston, Connecticut, 15 March 1783, ALS, 1 page, octavo, authorizing the letter's bearer, Justice of the Peace Samuel Mott, to collect "the whole of the Wages due to me for my Service in the Continental Army while I Serv'd in the 7th Connecticut Regimt. Commanded by Colo. Bradley....", along with a partially-printed ADS (1 page, quarto, fine) being a 3 June 1784 receipt signed by Samuel Mott for receipt of three pounds and nine shillings due to Jabez Rockewell "on the first Day of January 1781...."
