Lot contains: (A) King Louis XV of France, 1710-1744, DS, 1 p., folio, toned, with some separation at folds and minor staining on margins, llc. The King appoints Mons. Bevoyer d'Argenon to the command of a company in the Regiment de Conde upon the death of his predecessor and orders him to occupy the "old fort" with his company, as per orders previously given to the former commander, signed and dated at Versailles, 12 March 1748. (B) VEAZEY, Thomas W., 1774-1842, DS, 1 p., oblong folio, partially-printed appointment signed by Veazey as governor of Maryland, signed and dated Annapolis, 8 November 1836, appointing William Matthews as" Colonel of the first Regiment of the Militia of this State in Charles County." Fair to poor, with light toning, heavy separating at folds and some chips to edges. (C) Board of Ordnance to the Earl of Sunderland, signed and dated, 12 November 1709, docketed on recto. 1 p. bifolium sheet, very good. The Board transmits a copy of the appointed commission's proceedings to purchase "Lands &c. for the Fortifications at Portsmouth, Chatham & Warwick" as ordered by an Act of Parliament at its "last Session" and asks him to "lay the same before Her Majesty [Queen Anne]." Signed by Board members James Craggs, W. Bridges and Thomas Erle. (D) British 12th Regiment of Foot, untitled, tabular accounting for uniform clothing articles purchased by Colonel Henry Clinton from London clothier Nicholas Pearse for the year June 1767-June 1768, amounting to L 1118.5.6 Sterling. Written in clerical hand, not signed or dated, but 1768 per docketing on recto, 1 page, bifolium, tipped to a backing sheet, otherwise fine. Sir Henry Clinton later served as Commander in Chief of the British forces in North America, 1778-1782, during the Revolutionary War. From the Walter O'Connor collection.
