(1966) 28" Dovetailed barrels with narrow, swamped game ribs are engraved "Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd" "Orange Street Gunworks, Leicester Square, London." on tops. 1-1/2" Triangles of scroll engraving are at breech ends, and breech ends of barrels are inlaid "1" and "2" denoting a true pair. These numerals also appear on top levers and forend tips. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2 - 3/4" chambers. Case hardened Baker patent easy opening sidelock actions feature non-automatic safeties, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Baker patent single triggers in middle position which select right to left barrel first by pushing forward on trigger blade. Opening gun returns order to right/ left. Actions and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage medium sized shaded scroll within scrolled borders. "Churchill" is on scroll terminated banner at the front of each lockplate. Bottoms of actions are engraved "Premiere" "Finest" "Quality". Blued double beaded trigger guards with scroll on bows have serial numbers on tangs. Well matched lightly marbled and fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstocks measure 14 - 1/2" over checkered wood butts, and feature standard drop points, point pattern checkering at grips, and gold ovals engraved with monogram "HD" on toe line. Matching splinter ejector forends have Anson releases. Guns are housed in what appears to be their original Churchill type two gun VC case with stitched leather corners. Top of case is embossed "HD". Case is lined in burgundy cloth. Gold embossed Churchill label is on dividing flap. Case contains exterior straps, cleaning equipment, Churchill marked oil bottle, and a key. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refinished. Barrels retain over 95% fine quality re-black, with a number of light scratches on side of left barrel in front of forend on gun "1". Actions retain approximately 40% original case hardening color, silvered from normal hand wear on fences, beads, and bottoms. Locks retain over 80% of their color. Top levers and trigger guards re-blued, and retain essentially all of that blue. Stocks with very light refinish, over a few marks, with a few subsequent marks. Checkering has not been re-cut. Bores are excellent with some light striations toward breech ends of barrels. Actions are tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time. Triggers work well. Case leather is excellent, still light in color with a few scuffs and rubs. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is very fine to excellent. There are some fairly heavy rubs from contact with guns and actions. Label is excellent. Accessories are excellent. A great handling pair of small bore British "best" guns. Sixteen bore guns are especially sought after at the present time. MGM 102 Only legal residents of the United States of America may purchase this item.
