Lacy & Reynolds/Lacy & Company of London operated at 21 Great Street Helens, Crosby Square from 1836 to 1852. This is arguably the best large frame, large caliber pepperbox we have ever offered. It is literally in 99% as new condition inside and out with all original finish, never touched, with the exception of a few minor scratches at the bottom of the engraved trigger guard. This pistol has rested in this original dealer case for over 160 years without oxidation, rust or toning of any kind. The frame is full engraved; on the left panel is "LACY & CO LONDON", right side is simply scroll engraved. Hammer, safety, trigger guard and metal butt with trapdoor are all engraved. Barrel, frame, hammer and buttplate are beautiful, brilliant color case hardened with nearly all their original varnish. Trigger guard retains 85% bright blue with note to the scratches. Trigger is grey. Safety is finished in fire blue, as are screws. The grip has the finest lines per inch we have ever seen on a firearm, minuscule little diamonds with no overrun of any kind; simply breathtaking handwork that is unimaginable today. There is a keystone style silver ID plaque on back. Every barrel flat has British proof. Barrel retaining screw is fire blued and engraved with all of its finish. Muzzles of each chamber retain all their case colors. Original nipples are mint, unfired. This 1840's pepperbox is literally as new. Unimproveable. Simply the best we have ever seen. It is housed in its original dealer labeled display box; walnut with brass fittings, near mint trade label and green velvet. Accessories include ebony handled turnscrew, ebony handled nipple wrench, solid brass plunger/jag, mini oil bottle, trapdoor copper and brass powder flask with fire blue spring, compartment of original wads, sealed Joyce of London cap tin, two pre-1855 English coins, an India & Company trade token, single cavity bullet mold with tamper and some lead balls. Even the box is near mint. Arguably the finest 1840's large frame, large caliber London pepperbox we have ever seen. CORRECTION: This revolver has been deemed, after an exhaustive review, that the case colors have been miraculously restored and re-lacquered to new condition without sacrificing any of the edges, sharpness or legends.
