An unusual, unmarked, high polish Galand, distinct from original design in terms of case extraction, in large 12mm caliber, with ownership documents. This particular Galand has a 5.5 inch octagonal barrel with a drift adjustable front sight and a notched rear sight. Rotating up the loading gate also serves as a safety to block the hammer. There is no separate release for the extension lever that is held in place by friction. Once opened, the barrel and cylinder move forward, leaving the extractor star in place, closely opposed to the recoil shield, requiring cylinder rotation to remove the extracted cases from the loading area. Fitted with finely checkered walnut panels, held in place by a single transverse screw through a pair of escutcheons. Fluted grip cap with rotatable lanyard ring. The barrel, cylinder, frame, and trigger guard are highly polished, finished with a midnight blue. Hammer, trigger, and extension lever and polished and in the white. Accompanied by a three page document, one a probate document from the State of Maine, supporting original ownership by a Captain John Fulton Brown of Yarmouth, Maine, who was active in the shipping industry from 1865-1895. The revolver was passed down through three generations before sold to the present consignor. CONDITION: Approximately 70-80% original finish with the revolver presenting nicely on either side. Grip straps have largely faded to a mottled brown-grey. Spotty oxidation of the small parts that show no evidence of cleaning. Dull bore with easily discernible rifling. Perfect manual mechanics with each cylinder locking very firmly in place. Crisp documents. A very unusual and high condition large caliber Galand type revolver that merits further exploration.
