This is one of the rarest of all Ames swords and it is in nearly pristine condition. The slightly curved polished steel blade has a wide partial fuller on each side. The right side of the ricasso is stamped "U.S.N./ D.R./ 1862". The left side is stamped with standard Ames markings. Gilt brass hilt featuring a riveted partial basket on right side with four raised sections and pierced "USN" with engraved borders around each letter. The grip is wrapped with black leather and decorated with gilt brass twisted wire. The sword is complete with its original black leather scabbard with gilt brass button featuring a chased star at the tip and a gilt brass frog stud near the throat. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains nearly all of its original polish with some scattered light grey staining and a few nicks along the spine. The hilt retains 90-95% original bright gilt finish with some areas thinning and some wear on left side of guard. Grip is excellent with some scattered minor losses to surface. Scabbard is excellent with a few surface cracks from age. From the Jim Linton Collection
