This example is regarded as the finest of the three that are in existence. This is from the collection of Norm Flayderman. The double edged steel blade has a fullered panel in the center on each side and both sides are decorated with 11-3/4" panels of etched decoration. One side features a large American eagle holding an "E Pluribus Unum" banner in its mouth along with oak branches, roses and musical instruments. The other side is decorated en suite and etched "N.P. Ames/ Cutler/ Springfield". Each side of the cast brass guard is engraved with a single lined border. The pommel is chased on both sides with a detailed American eagle. The one piece grip is of fluted bone. This example is complete with its original brass scabbard. CONDITION: Excellent. Blade retains nearly all of original polish with some light grey discoloration on both sides near ricasso. The hilt and scabbard retain a mellow patina with some minor scattered storage marks. This is a rare opportunity to own the best example of an extremely rare Ames Officer's sword. From the Jim Linton Collection
